Location: The Production Office is in Williamsburg, VA. Filming primarily in Hampton Roads, VA

We’re seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Production Coordinator to assist the Producer while preparing for post-production. This is an opportunity to contribute to a meaningful project that brings history to life for a national audience.

About the Project:

We are producing an independent historical documentary intended for broadcast on PBS. Our film follows descendants of the first Contraband community in Hampton, VA as they share their ancestral stories of enslavement and self-emancipation during the early days of the Civil War and their families accomplishements during the Reconstruction Era in Hampton.

Position Overview:

The Production Coordinator will help ensure smooth operations of the edit through the PBS deliverables of the documentary film. The ideal candidate is proactive, resourceful, and comfortable working collaboratively with other people. This role involves coordinating teams, managing footage and archival materials, and maintaining schedules.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate production schedules to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Supervise the organization, storage, and tracking of all footage and digital assets.
  • Oversee the acquisition and cataloging of archival materials, liaising with archives, libraries, and rights holders.
  • Maintain production calendars and track milestones, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Troubleshoot production challenges and ensure solutions align with project goals and PBS standards.

Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Experience managing archival research and licensing for documentary content.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with diverse teams.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and solve problems efficiently.
  • Familiarity with PBS standards and broadcast documentary workflows is a plus.

Seeking a Part-Time Fundraising Professional for PBS Documentary

About the Project

We are in the development/production phase of a PBS documentary and educational program entitled THE GATE: The Story of America’s First Contraband Community (working title). The film tells several lesser-known Virginia stories through the lens of two families that self-emancipated at the beginning of the Civil War. This project will engage audiences and make a lasting impact, but we need a fundraising expert to help make it a reality. The position is part-time, has very flexible hours, and allows you to work from home.

The Challenge

Securing grant funding for documentaries has become challenging, making it crucial for us to seek alternative funding sources to ensure the continuation of this historically significant project.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate closely with the film’s Producer and production team to align fundraising efforts with project goals.

Develop and execute a fundraising strategy using our fundraising trailer, pitch deck & grant narrative to secure financial support for the documentary.

Assist with organizing fundraising events and initiatives.

Identify and cultivate relationships with potential donors, including individuals, foundations, and corporate sponsors.

Assist in writing & editing our funding requests and grants.

Qualifications:

Proven track record of successful fundraising campaigns, preferably within the arts or media sectors.

Knowledge of grant writing, donor relations, and sponsorship acquisition.

Strong communication skills and the ability to craft persuasive proposals and funding materials.

Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as within a team.

Preferences:

Familiar with documentary filmmaking and a commitment to supporting creative, impactful projects.
